Freemasonry & Charity
The three Great Principles by which we stand are Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Freemasons are taught to practise charity and to care, not only for their own, but also for the community as a whole – both by charitable giving, and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals.
From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged. This work continues today. In addition, large sums are given to national and local charities.
Masonic charity is exercised at every level: individual Lodges make gifts and give aid to their own communities and every Province also gives large sums of money to regional causes. Nationally, our efforts are channelled through four main charity organisations. They are:
The Grand Charity
The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys
The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution
The Masonic Samaritan Fund
The Sanctuary Lodge are proud to be Vice Patrons for the 2012 Devon Festival in aid of the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls & Boys.
Wednesday 25th March 2009After closing the lodge this evening the master W.Bro S.Scagell invited members and guests to hear an address from the CEO of the cancer charity FORCE. This informative and enlightening presentation was well received by all and after giving her address Meriel Fishwick answered questions put to her by the assembled audience. The master and his Charity Steward W.Bro P.Scagell PPGreg (also his father) then presented Mrs Fishwick with a substantial cheque. So many people are touched either directly or indirectly by the wretched thing that is cancer and we are all honoured to be able to donate to such a worthy cause. |
